When we read the story of the people of Israel in the Old Testament we see that all was sustained and blessed by the paternal care of God. Manna in the wilderness, water from the rock and "a land flowing with milk and honey "are among the many generous gifts from the Lord. However, contrary to what one might think, not all of the struggles of this special people were happy. Part of the way rugged mountains and hurtful contained peaks made it difficult to continue. Sometimes the Lord allowed the rocks to test the faith of his son Israel, other, these came as a result of repression of a loving merciful Father. Again and again the tests were a laudable aim and purpose was unquestionably good. The Church is spiritual Israel, the chosen people of God, and as expected, its not set in delightful way quiet and unemotional happiness. The same pitfalls and stumbling, the same evidence and without tastes come from God with the healthy to polish the gold that is in us and start the scum of our money.
When you walk down a flowery path is easy and safe heart-lung yelling "I am a son or daughter of God," but the cry is muffled and sometimes more intelligible when we are climbing a steep slope and the effort our breath short. The evil did not come but to steal, kill and destroy and to fulfill their missions use those among us who hold to serve their selfish purposes.
